Our Visit to The Metro Eco Drop

Our Visit to the Metro Eco Drop

Last week our class had a visit to Metro Eco Drop to learn about worms. We had a beautiful day trip. The expert at the Metro Eco Drop was called Chris. He was very cool and told us lots of facts.
Did you know,
  • the worms we use in our worm farms are called Tiger Worms,
  • the Tiger Worms have stripes
  • worms are covered in little hairs
  • worms have no teeth
  • worms feel very slimey, they are long and skinny
  • some people don't like to hold the worms
  • worms have 5 hearts!!!

It was fun going on the trip because we liked going in the vans and seeing the worms.

Wow you guys know so many facts about worms. We think it is really cool that you got to go and visit some. Some of us like to hold worms and some of us don't.
Do worms work together like bees to make the compost?

  2. Hi Miss Bel and Kōtuku Learning Space
The trip was one of the free programmes offered by the Christchurch City Council.
Our teacher was a bit squeamish about collecting the worms! but most of us did it.
A really cool thing was that we all got to make our own worm farms to take home! We think that you would really love the trip as much as we did.
We are not sure if the worms work together to make the compost.

  3. Kia ora koutou Rongo mā Tāne. I'm so please you visited the Metro Eco Drop. Sounds like you learnt a lot about works. Do you know some students at Rāwhiti School made a wee movie about the worm farm we used to have at our school called Rāwhiti Living. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqm9b773SP8

    1. Kia ora Elizabeth,
Some of us watched the movie and it was great because it was good and different. We noticed the that the plants were not growing and the playground was not fully built because we worked out that this movie was as old as we were and we were just 1years old. We are really happy that you have commented on our blog and thank you, You are the best.

    1. Thanks for your comment Sadie. We went mainly to see the worms, but we planted some grass seed at the top of our worm farms to look a little bit like hair. Have you been to the worm farm before?
