Hurdles with Georgia

Every Monday as part of our Whakawhitinga (interchange rotation), we have a PE session with Georgia from Eastern Community Sport and Recreation Inc. This week, we used hurdles as part of our team relays. We practised jumping over them in lots of different ways. We also did running, star jumps, cross overs and skipping as part of our races. I wonder what our focus will be this week.

My Monster Smells Gross...

Did you know, Rachel has a monster at her house? It's stinky, eats earwax for breakfast and likes to make cupcakes out of bird poo...? EW!

Rachel read us the book called, 'My Monster Smells Gross!' by Kate Leake. We then got to design our own disgusting monsters and we could be as gross as we wanted. There was lots of "ews" from Rachel when we told her what our monsters have.

Loose Parts Shed

At the Loose Parts Shed the children were working together to create houses. There was lots of trial and error and laughter as they tried out their solutions. They successfully built a two-storied house then realised that they hadn't thought about how they would get into the house!

 A step was created so that they could climb over the side and into the house. So much fun was had at this activity and it was a shame when we had to pack up. Thank goodness we have the Loose Parts Shed as an option for Choice and Challenge each week.

Choice and Challenge

Today, during Choice and Challenge, it was all about circuits! First, the students learnt a little about electricity and circuits. Next, we set a wero (challenge) of making a fan fly as high as they could! Following a few circuit errors, we finally had some fully functioning designs and wow - did the fans fly high!!

It was amazing to see everyone really into their projects and we even got to hear some crazy computer sounds and flashing lights! Ka rawe koutou! #resilience #success

A Stack of Alpacas

This week in maths we have been able to choose which maths activity we would like to do. Some of us chose to read 'A Stack of Alpacas' with Michelle which is about a gang of alpacas that get up to all sorts of crazy things!

Geometry in Art

Today, some of us chose to make 'shape art' with vivids and crayons. We considered all the possible shapes that we could use, their attributes and how we could position them on the page.

Party in your PJs!

Our final Google Meet had a party theme. It was lots of fun. We dressed up in our PJs and then played some games which included a hilarious game of Would you Rather...? and then a scavenger hunt! Kōwhai group also brought along their teddies. 

So... would you rather kiss a frog or hug a snake? Have an extra toe or an extra finger? 

We had lots of fun making the different choices and then heading off to find things around our houses for the scavenger hunt. Kōwhai kaiāwhina group had to find 'something to eat with, something to draw with, and something green. Tawa kaiāwhina group had to find a leaf.
