Choice and Challenge

Today, during Choice and Challenge, it was all about circuits! First, the students learnt a little about electricity and circuits. Next, we set a wero (challenge) of making a fan fly as high as they could! Following a few circuit errors, we finally had some fully functioning designs and wow - did the fans fly high!!

Mayan and Carys taking up the wero.

Continuing to persevere to achieve success.

Blast off!

It was amazing to see everyone really into their projects and we even got to hear some crazy computer sounds and flashing lights! Ka rawe koutou! #resilience #success

A Stack of Alpacas

This week in maths we have been able to choose which maths activity we would like to do. Some of us chose to read 'A Stack of Alpacas' with Michelle which is about a gang of alpacas that get up to all sorts of crazy things!

A Stack of Alpacas | BIG W
Book by Matt Cosgrove

After reading the book, we used cups and other resources to make our own stacks and towers.

Jacob and Joseph working on their stack.

Nate, Jackson, Jack and Vinnie building their stack.
I wonder what you could use to build a tower at home?

Geometry in Art

Today, some of us chose to make 'shape art' with vivids and crayons. We considered all the possible shapes that we could use, their attributes and how we could position them on the page.

Success!

Can you name all the shapes that you see in the art below?
How can you tell the shapes apart?

Party in your PJs!

Our final Google Meet had a party theme. It was lots of fun. We dressed up in our PJs and then played some games which included a hilarious game of Would you Rather...? and then a scavenger hunt! Kōwhai group also brought along their teddies.

So... would you rather kiss a frog or hug a snake? Have an extra toe or an extra finger?

We had lots of fun making the different choices and then heading off to find things around our houses for the scavenger hunt. Kōwhai kaiāwhina group had to find 'something to eat with, something to draw with, and something green. Tawa kaiāwhina group had to find a leaf.

You can check out our pictures. It was a great way to end the Google Meets and connect with each other. before returning back to school.

Āe Māku e Mahi!

One of this week's challenge was to complete a Seesaw Activity. One of the activities was to complete a job and then record yourself saying the words, "Āe māku e mahi" which means, yes, I'll do it. Moses did an amazing job of doing the dishwasher and he recorded the words so beautifully. I have attached the video so you can hear for yourself.

Kei hea mai! That's outstanding, Moses! Can't wait to see if more people complete the activity.

Home Learning Term 2, Week 5

Wow, we are nearing the end of Alert Level 3 soon (hopefully) which means we will be able to see your lovely smiling faces back at school again. Boy have we missed you all!

Attached is our Home Learning grid for Week 5. We have loved the responses to our challenges, and also to the Activities we've been posting to Seesaw. Ka mau te wehi - fantastic job. I hope that everyone feels proud of what they've achieved during our Alert Level 3 and 4, even if it's activities such as getting out for walks, or doing baking together. We feel very lucky that we have been a part of your lives from home for the past 7 weeks, especially during the Google Meets. We have a fun one planned as our last one so make sure you look out for that invite in your inbox.

Look after yourselves, and we can't wait to see you again!

Home Learning Origami Foxes

One of our Home Learning activities was to follow the You Tube instructions link to make origami foxes...

Torbiaz and his little brother Nikau had a go at creating them, and so did Vinnie. Vinnie has demonstrated to us how they can be used. He's reading the book The Faraway Tree.

How great do they look? Ka mau te wehi everyone who completed the challenge! I look forward to seeing some more of these wee foxes.

Rongo-mā-tāne's "new teachers" reading to us

Twice a week, the Rongo-mā-tāne teachers have been reading picture books for the children to listen to. Some of our amazing students have decided that they would like to take over this job. Ka mau te wehi! How terrific! Here are Millie and Carys sharing their stories with us. Who would like to read us one of their favourite books next?

Animals, Beasts, and Mythical Creatures...

Home Learning Term 2, Week 4

Kia ora and welcome to Term 2, Week 4...

How lucky are we that the weather has been so nice and we've been able to get out and about. We love seeing all the photos of what you've been up to throughout the past week, especially the photo montage of things you found for Elizabeth's challenge.

Seesaw has been such a great way for us to stay connected, also a big thanks to you all for joining our Google Meets. We will continue to do these each week until school is back so keep an eye out in your inbox for an invitation to a Meet this coming week.

Remember to email Nicole if you're having any issues logging into Seesaw CLASS.

Here is this week's learning. We look forward to seeing all the ways you can be creative.

Also - don't forget Mother's Day on Sunday 10th May. We've included a wee Activity on Seesaw for you to show appreciation to a special someone in your life to celebrate Mother's Day.

Take care, look after yourselves.
