Teddy Bears Picnic
If you go down to the school today, you'd better go in disguise
For every bear that ever there was will gather there for certain
Because today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic..."
On Friday the 12th of August Rongo-mā-tāne earned their marble jar reward and we chose to have a teddy bear picnic. Whānau were invited to come and share in the fun and the children were encouraged to bring their teddy bears and also a wee treat in their lunchbox.
There was lots of excited chatter as the children shared their teddy bears with each other. We ate on the turf and then had a play on our playground, Hikihiki.
"It was pretty good because someone shared their M&Ms and Cheeseballs with me." Lucas - 6 years old
"I liked it because we got to bring our teddy." Aria - 6 years old
"I liked it because I brought my teddy and Mum brought some brownies to eat." Logan - 6 years old

Kelly Sports
On Thursday, each kaiāwhina group had a session with the Kelly Sports team. Here are some pics of Tī Kōuka's session. We played games and practised skills for both tennis and rugby. "I played with the tennis racquet in the hall," said Avalon.

Traditional instruments
Today Bob Bickerton came to Rāwhiti school to demonstrate Tonga Puroro, the traditional instruments of Māori.
We enjoyed watching him play various instruments that told the stories of Ranginui and Papatūānuku.

Victoria's last week
This is Victoria's last week in Rongo-mā-tāne. To celebrate she brought her children in to perform a special traditional dance.
We were all super lucky and enjoyed eating the yummy cupcakes that Victoria made for us!
We are going to miss having Victoria at Rāwhiti School and wish her all the best for her teaching career.

Choice and Challenge Time!
Every Friday we have 'choice and challenge' in Rongō'-mā-tāne. Tamariki had a choice between playing at the loose parts shed or the hill or playing soccer/outdoor games and the bike track.
Here are some photos of us at choice and challenge today! It was great to see our tamariki using their rise values like resilience and teamwork when creating at the loose parts shed and playing soccer.

Rongo-mā-tāne Signing Pepeha
During 'Red Level' we haven't been allowed to sing inside in our studio. Instead, we have been learning how to sign SIX60's 'Pepeha' waiata in New Zealand Sign Language. We have enjoyed this new challenge and have been learning new kupu each day.

Our Best Holiday Moments
Here is our 'Best Holiday Moments' movie. You may need to pause it to read some of our writing... it goes pretty fast. :-)
Football Sessions
This week on Wednesday, Gary from Coastal Football came to Rāwhiti School to teach us some skills.
We learned how to dribble and control the ball. We practised dribbling with our eyes up so we could see other players around us. Together we had heaps of fun!
